Comedy Night

Tonight for our combined activity, we watched a few Studio C sketches.

Studio C is a comedy group on BYUtv and we as a family have loved watching it. When I asked the young women if they had seen or heard of it all I got was deafening silence. So I was excited to show them so fun, clean comedy.

We also had a concession stand with candy, popcorn, and water.

Fun, easy, successful night!

Why was a restoration necessary?

Every time we come to a new month of curriculum for our Sunday classes, I mourn the fact that we do not have more time to cover all of the topics. I am so glad that the youth are getting the topics in both Sunday School and YW/ YM because they are so foundational to the gospel.

Today, because of several reasons, our time was basically over before it started. I started off by having the young women figure out the timeline found here. The young women each received a point from the timeline and had to put it in order. Then we talked about the events. The together we answered the first page from the worksheets.

Our time was up at this point so I send the young women home with the first page of these worksheets to complete during the week. I asked them to come up with one reason why a restoration was necessary to share for next week.

I ran out of time but I wanted to do an object lesson. I was going to show a completed puzzle, pull it apart, and then ask a young woman to put it back together. I would take one piece away first. Then we would talk about how it is frustrating to not have a complete puzzle and how it can not be restored with something missing. Then I would relate it to the things that have been restored in the gospel.

Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ

Today's young women lesson was How can I find faith in Jesus Christ? As I was preparing I ran across a wonderful idea on the LDS Teachers group on Facebook. (Wonderful source of ideas and suggestions!) So I took the idea and ran with it.

Before class- I found several quotes, poems, and hymns on faith, printed them out and hung them on the walls. I hung up some pictures of scriptures stories from the gospel art kit.

Class- I started by asking who in the scriptures had faith and why. We also talked about what faith means.

(From sugardoodle.net)

Then I gave the young women some time to wander around the room looking at the things on the wall, while filling out a worksheet. I also told them to write down any thoughts or impressions that came to mind. When they were they picked out a favorite quote and sat down in a circle.

We then used our quotes and worksheets to teach the lesson. Everyone took turns standing up and saying a sentence about faith or the atonement.

Then we talked about how faith related to the atonement. I ended class by reading the piano lessons analogy from the talk- His Grace is Sufficient by Brad Wilcox.

Karaoke Night

For Mutual this week the young women had a karaoke night and then we finished taking down prom.

Here is another idea for a karaoke night.
